Hi Angie, Ive been following my McKays backwards from my Grandfather on. My McKays are in Canada, I have gotten back to 1837 th e birth of my GGGrandfather Alexander McKay in Pictou, Nova Scotia, but Ive gotten stuck.
My family came to BC in Canada in the next generation. 3 members of my family all say they were told that their family name was MacKay before and that it was changed to McKay, but no one appears to know when this change took place, as they all grew up with the name McKay. Even what I have found on my GGGrandfather so far it is spelled McKay. It appears that Alexanders mother may have been a Catherine McKay born in Scotland, so Im not sure if this name change took place before the family came to Canada or not.
Thanks for your help
Deborah
