Dear Mrs.Mackay-Barnett,

My great-grandmother was a Margaret Mackay(1826-1914).She was born in Cowgate/Thurso and had 7 sisters:John(1821),Donald(1823),Catherine(1825),Hugh(1830)Jane(1833)William Angus(1835)Elisabeth(1836).It is not likely ,that your Donald was her brother, but maybe a son of one of her sisters. Her father was Robert Mackay(1792-1853)a military man,who fought at Trafalgar and had a farm after he resigned. He was married to Elisabeth Farquar, born around 1795.But the Mackays were numerous around Thurso and a lot of them left the place. But probably some research is this direction may help you.
