Re: John Mackay/ Lord Reay

According to The Book of Mackay 1906, " Lord Reay who died in 1680 was twice married. By his first wife Isabella Sinclair whom he married in1636 he had two children; Robert died early in life without issue; Jane married (contract 14 Nov 1665) Robert Gordon, third son of John, Earl of Sutherland. Robert Gordon died at Langdale Strathnaver, 1671, without issue; and his widow afterwards married, secondly, Hugh Mackay 1V of Strathy by whom she had issue as given in our account of that family."

The 1829 History of the House and Clan of Mackay however gives the additional information that Isabella Sinclair was the daughter of George Earl of Caithness (married 1636) but gives the name of the son who died about 1670 without issue as George....... so confusion remains
