Hawkey/Haughey/Mackay??

Within the family surname of HAWKEY, there is a point at which we have been stumped. My Great-Great-GrandFather's names was Daniel P. Hawkey, but we are unable to discover who his Mother and Father were, or where they were from. I suspect his parents may have emmigrated from either Ireland, or Scotland, and changed their name to the English version, around the early 1800's.

Does anyone have any information that may be of some assistance to our search?

Thank you!
