Senator Robert Mackay Montreal born Lybster Caithness

I still live in the far north of Scotland approx. 50 miles from where my family was burned out of their home, around 1820 in Kildonan Sutherland. They then set up home in Roster, Latheron district of Caithness.

William McKay married Ann Matheson in the parish of Kildonan on 23 December 1796. They had 10 children, their son Joseph emigrated to Canada around 1832. His brother Edward emigrated to Canada around 1840. The 2 brothers set up a business in Montreal (I believe). Joseph and Edward were then joined by their nephews Hugh, James and Robert who then ran the business. Robert became a Senator, his daughter Cairine became the first lady Senator in Canada.

I am trying to trace their families, could you help?
