I am looking for a James Mackay b.3 Apr 1867 Riggend,Scotland - mother: Jane Shearer Taylor b.15 Mar 1847 Caldercruiks,Scotland.d.10 Mar 1912 East Whitburn,Scotland. It is not known if Jane married the Mackay father. Jane had a daughter Margaret Kerr b.25 Feb 1869 Dalziel,Scotland. It is believed Jane did marry her father Archibald Kerr. In 1871 Jane married a James Reid b.19 Dec 1852 Glasgow,Scotland and had 12 Children with James Reid. In the 1881 Census there is my Reid Family: Dwelling:Polkemmet Row - Place:Bathgate,Linlithgow,Scotland. Jas. REID M 30 M Glasgow,Lanark,Scotland Rel:Head Jane REID M 34 F Calder Cruix, Lanark,Scotland Rel:Wife Jas.Mackay REID U 14 M Riggend,Lanark,Scotland Rel:Step Son Maggie {Margaret} Kerr REID U 12 F Motherwell,Lanark,Scotland and six more children follow that are of James Reids and Janes. I am trying to find out whether the James Mackay and Margaret Kerr would have been adopted in those days, and that is why their last names are Reid on the Census? or was it some thing that was done often.??? If ant of this means anything to you I would very much appreciate hearing from you! Thanks and Regards Sherri Notify Administrator about this message?
