Jessie McKay, born 1802, and her ancestors: help with Peter McKay and wife?

Hi all,

I have enclosed at the end of this message my initial message regarding Jessie (McKAY) McLEA. (Also sometimes spelled MacKay, depending on record.) I am seeking her ancestors. I now know this from her death record:

"1870 Deaths in the District of Hutchesontown, in the Burgh of Glasgow

Notes in margin; Notes; No.; Name and surname; When and where died; Sex;
Age; Name of Father, Name of Mother; Cause of Death; Informant; When and
where registered

382.       Jessie McLEA, Widow of John McLEA, Blacksmith (Master); 1870 March
Twenty Fourth, 11 h 15 m P.M. 13 Hospital Street, Glasgow; F; 68 years;
Peter McKAY, Blacksmith (Master) (deceased), -------- McKAY M.S. ---------,
(deceased); General Breakup of the Constitution, 2 years, As Cert By M. H?
GIBSON, Surgeon; Duncan McLEA, Son; 1870 March 25th, at Glasgow; H. K.
Melville, Interim Registrar."

If anyone has any information on a Peter McKAY, who would have fathered Jessie McKAY born about 1802 (presumably in Glasgow, but perhaps anywhere in Scotland), I would very much appreciate it, especially if anyone had any ideas about who the wife might be!

Thanks again, McKAY's! It appears I am one of you as well, given my ancestry through the maternal line (all those years ago!)

Dear McKay Family:

According to one of my ancestor's death record, his parents were John MCLEA and Jessie MCKAY, who were both deceased at the time of his death in 1888 in Glasgow, Scotland. John was a master blacksmith and his son Peter was born ~1828, so I would expect he and his wife Jessie to have been born early 1800s.

I am looking to find any record of John or Jessie (MCKAY) MCLEA. If any of you have any plausible Jessies, this would be of great interest to me. Help much appreciated! (Post or email to ksm6 at cornell dot edu)

It is also interesting to note that MCKAY is interesting to me, because Peter MCLEA, their child, gave his own daughter Elizabeth the name MCKAY as a middle name, so he clearly held the name is great respect.

Thanks again,

Kyle
