Hugh MacKay, Scotland, Burke Co., NC

I am seeking information regarding Hugh MacKay (McCoy)who was born in Scotland probably about 1765/67. He came to the American Colonies during the American Revolution to fight for the British. He was wounded in what is now Burke County, North Carolina and was taken to the home of John Franklin. After his recovery from wounds, he married Jemima Franklin, a daughter of John Franklin. He and Jemima are said to have had six children. One of their children was Daniel MacKay (McCoy), b. 1787 in Burke County, NC. I am told that Hugh left his home in North Carolina after 1790 to return to Scotland and either died at sea or died in Scotland. None of his family was ever able to find out his fate. Any help on determining his fate or finding information on his relations in Scotland would be sincerely appreciated.
