Frederick Mackay, NS>NYC c.1895
Posted by: Ross Cann Date: July 15, 1999 at 16:03:08
  of 986

My fatherís mother Fairlie Irene MacKAY (1905-1978) was born in Brooklyn, NY where her parents settled after emigrating from Nova Scotia. Her parents were Irene SINCLAIR (c. 1873-c1959) and Ireneís second husband Frederick MacKAY (c.1875-1960). Her first husband, John Howard FRASER (3.20.1860-c1892) by who she had a child (Howard Sinclair Fraser (3.1892-1949)) was lost at sea and she was left a widow for a time.

Frederick MacKay was granted naturalized citizenship by the Infant Act on July 30, 1894. I presume this means that he and his wife had a child who was born in the US and perhaps died as there was only my Grandmother Fairlie and her older half-brother. John Howard FRASER, the first husband, was granted his ship masterís certificate (#2273) on 3.8.1886 in Yarmouth NS.

Now for family lore:
It is said that Frederick MacKAY supposedly knew my father's other grandfather (Henry Vibret CANN) while growing up in Sydney, Nova Scotia. It is also said that Irene Sinclair was born at sea off Cape Breton, perhaps coming from Scotland? Any information you can find out about these MacKAYís,, SINCLAIRís and FRASERís would be greatly appreciated.
