I have recently embarked on a quest to discover any information regarding my ancestors. I traveled to Hungary, and The Czech republic a few years ago. However, at that time I did not know that our family name had been changed from Maczko to Macko. Therfore, I was unsuccessful in my quest. My father was Gyorgy Maczko. He was 2 yrs old when he arrived at Ellis Island with brother Andros 4, & Mother Anna Nagy Maczko, July 6, 1914, on the George Washington. The ship left Bremen Germany a couple of weeks before WWI. They were from (sp) Kassanjfaln, Hungary. My father's father was Gyorgy Csarni Maczko, born Feb 20, 1885, left for America just a few months before my father was born. He arrived June 6,1912, on Pretoria, from Hamburg Germany. His sponsor was (sp) Morris Mirrish (perhaps Kirrish) according to ship's manifest, his address was 1479 Madison avenue, NY,NY. When my father arrived his mother's contact was located at 61 Niagara, Newark, NJ. My father's Grandmother's name was Zsuzsanna Csarni. My father's mother's parent's names were Jozsef Nagy, & Erzsebet Belicsak, also originally from (sp)Kassaujfalu. Name was changed to Macko, but I don't know when. If you have ANY information that may be helpful, it would be highly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Kenneth Nicholas Macko (Maczko)
