Mary, I have been searching again for my John Henry Macke. I went to the Allen County Library and searched immigration records, but have not found any better leads yet as to which family John Henry was related to. I was searching 1846 as that is when Anna Maria Deaker/Decker said that she came and also the year that she said they were married. I am now about convinced that he came earlier, possibly with your Joseph, but I know that J H and Mary had a child in Cincinnati in 1848, so I am wondering why he would be alone with your Joseph Macke's family in the 1850 census. I may have found Anna Maria and her son, John Henry, Jr. in the 1850 Hamilton Co. census, though, so maybe he had gone to stay with his brother while looking for work or a place to live. Family legend says that they lived in Ripley Co. Indiana sometime between 1853 and 1859. I finally found them in the 1860 Cincinnati, Hamilton Co. OH census. He was using the name Henry, not John. Have you done any searching of records in Ripley County? I may have to make a trip there.
Do you have the English translation of the name of thebook that you mentioned? I may have someone check to see if it is available on microfilm. Is that where you got your information about the families who came to Ohio and Indiana at that time? It sounds very interesting. Thanks again for any help. Eleanor
