I have just discovered that the surname "McNaughton" may be the missing link in my Fowler line.

I have very little information except a marriage record found on Family stating that George W. Fowler md Catherine McNaughton in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan in 1840.

George could have been my Great Great Grandfather who married a lady (unknown given name or surname) who was "born at sea" coming from Scotland (date unknown). They had a son, named Ezra Fowler, bn in 1842.

Since then I have found many McNaughton's in the same areas (New York, Ohio, Michigan, and Kansas) where my Fowler line had been and in the same time frame. Most of them were born in NY or had lived there and so had my George Fowler. There are so many and it appears all of them named at least one son "John".

Today I found a William McNaughton, bn 1841 in NY, Father's birthplace was Scotland, but living in Atchison, Kansas in 1880. One son was named Robert, bn 1869. All children (Nelly, Alice, Albert, John, Robert, Lillian and Harvy) were born in NY except the 6-month old (Harvy) who was born in Kansas. Most of these names I have seen in my Fowler line.

I tried to make this brief, but if you see any similarities and contact me, I can go into greater detail.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.....hope to hear from you.

Darline Fowler Smith
