Problem solved. Roderick's family were not from Benbecula or the Uists. He married 28.12.1900 22 journeyman mason, son of Simon McPherson ploughman and Annie m.s. Fraser.

Simon was not an island name and in the 1881 Census, the family shows up at Gateside, Avoch, Ross & Cromarty as Simon McPherson 29 fm servt b. Croy, Inverness; Ann 24 wife b. Knockbain, Ross & Cromarty; John 5 b Knockbain; Roderick 3 b. Knockbain; and Marjory 1 b. Avoch, Ross & Cromarty.

Just to complete the story, 1881 had at 14 Scott St, Barony, Glasgow, William Doctor 40, engine man b. Dundee; Elizabeth (m.s. Buchanan)34 b. Glasgow; Joseph 15 Apprentice machine fitter; Jeanie 13; William 11; Thomas 9; Charles 7; Elixabeth 4; and Alexander 1. This was the right family as confirmed by the rest of the marriage entry in 1900.

Good hunting
