Currituck County, NC, McPhersons

I was wondering if anyone knew of any MacPhersons that moved from Canada to Currituck county, NC. I noticed most MacPhersons from Canada, spell their name Mac...
When I was a child, I asked my dad why he put two dotts under the C in the spelling of McPherson.....He said because the A was left out. But, My gg grandfather, Arthur McPherson was born in 1794 in Currituck county,NC. and I have not been able to find any connection to Canada. I am searching for my ggg-grandfather. He could have been a william......not proven.
