Levoid -

Clarinda is the grandmother for whom I am named. She was also known as Clary and Clara. Her father was Thomas Graves. Her mother was Mary Lassiter. They had some connection with the Gaineys, but it was not as direct line. Clarinda, Mary Graves, and Mary Lassiter (daughter, mother, grandmother) are listed in the book of the poor who received assistance which was recently published in the Chesterfield, SC, Genealogy publication. Mary Graves is listed as a widow at that time. Not long after, Clarinda and her sister are listed in the Census (I think 1850) as living with Mary Lassiter. I was always told as a child that my grandmother was an orphan.
