Hi--i am a g-g-g-niece of a George Macrae from Centerville VA, who could easily have served in the civil war. His brothers-in-law all served. I know that his wife Maggie was born in 1846, so he could easily have been the right age. Our George was "George H. T. Macrae". Although ours was married in 1868.... What is the death date on your George?
