Did you check the list of Highlanders regements for North & South Carolina? also, you might try contacting the Ary War College in Carlisle Pa - I know that they have some military records there and if he drew a pension for his servoce, they might have a record of that -- I've used them before. Did you check the state archives in Raeigh for any records on this Phillip McRae?
