John Macrander (listed as Johannes Macrander, born 1819, on a family tree chart in the City Archives of Wetzlar am Lahn, Hesse, Germany. His arrival on July 10, 1840 is documented on the passenger list of the Prussian Brig "Emil", arriving at Baltimore, MD from the port of Rotterdam, The Netherlandes. In his biography sketch of 1904, for Nodaway and Atchison Counties, Missouri, Lewis Publising Co., Chicago, IL, he is mentioned as arriving in 1840 after a 69 day trip at sea.

John Macrander appears on a ships passenger list of the Brig "Apollo" arriving June 26, 1844 at Baltimore, MD from Breman, Germany. This recently available record poses a number of questions to be resolved.

At least three Jacob Macrander persons are found in passenger arrival records on or about 1837 and 1852.

Many generations of Macrander men have Johnann, Johannes and variations among their several personal names number from one name to as many as four. For reasons unkown, John Macrander who lived out his life in Atchison Co., MO until 1910 seems not to have used more than the single John Macrander to identify himself while living in the U.S.A.
