Wetzlar is a town on the Lahn River, about eight miles west of Giessen which is also on the Lahn River. Bothe the towns are approximately 35 miles north of Frankfurt am Main in the Land of Hesse (or Hessen in Deutsche).
I posted a reply to another person on these forums detailing the ancestry of Catharina Jacobine Cramer (or Kramer) wife of Johanne Jacob Macrander. both families lived many generations in Wetzlar. Wetzlar back around the early 1800s was an imperial town, in a small circle identified as a portion of the Rhineland Province of the Kingdom of Prussia. It was surrounded by Principalities of Hessen-Nassau and Hessen-Darmstadt on all sides. The larger part of the Rhineland Province of the K. of Prussia was much farther to the north.
