OBITUARY: Bertha (Madden) Harper.
.
Mrs. Bertha Harper, 87, a former resident of Cumberland and Atlantic [Cass County, Iowa], and a resident at Peace Haven Home in Walnut, Iowa, since 1967, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 8, 1971, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, where she had been a patient since June 1st.

Mrs. Harper, the daughter of Thomas William Madden and Alice Lunetta (Porter) Madden, was born in Edna Township, Cass County, Iowa, on March 5, 1884. She was united in marriage to Earl L. Harper in Atlantic, Iowa, on November 7, 1906. They farmed in the Orient area before moving to Atlantic, in 1954.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
.
Surviving is one son, Berchel H. Harper of Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in January 28, 1968; two brothers, John and William Madden, and one sister, Mrs. Cora [Madden] Hunt.
.
Funeral services were held at Roland's Funeral Home in Atlantic with Orris Drake of Walnut officiating.
.
Mrs. Harold Phend, organist, accompanied Junior L. Wohlenhaus as he sang "Love Lifted Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Serving as casket bearers were Leonard Victoria, Walter Scott, Harold Childs, Henry Hainline, Arthur Bees and Paul Tussey.
.
Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery at Cumberland, Cass County, Iowa.
