There is too much similarity here not to have a connection. I am descended from George Ord Karrick whose second wife was Galena Crockwell or Madiera (b. 18 July 1826). They were m. 9 August 1847 in Dubuque, IA.
The only info I have on her family:
Obituary in the Dubuque Herald, 20 April, 1879: Mrs. Galena Ann Karrick who departed this life on the 10th day of this month, at the residence of her brother, Doctor Crockwell, at Salt Lake City, was the widow of the late Captain Gorge Ord Karrick. Like her husband Mrs. Karrick has left a large number of relatives in this city and vicinity, who will be sorely grieved at the sad intelligence of her decease. Mrs. Karrick was a strict member of the Methodist Episcopal church and died in the faith and the doctrines of that church. She was about 52 years old. Mrs. Karrick was the daughter of Doctor Crockwell, who many years since resided in this city and died at Potosi, Wisconsin, where he had lived for several years and practiced his profession. Mrs. Karrick leaves an only son, Lewis Cass Karrick , with whom she lived at Salt Lake City until within a short time before her decease. She was the sister of Mrs. R. Cheney and L.L. Wood*, of this city, and of Mr. C.L.D. Crockwell, of Council Bluffs, who are stricken with grief at the loss of their dearly beloved sister.
There is a rumor that Dr. Crockwell adopted her.
George and Galena had one child, Lewis Cass Karrick, b. 1848. I have no idea where the name Cass came from.
Any bells ringing?
