I'm reading Louise Pecquet du Bellet 1907 _Some Prominent Virginia Families_ vol4
She (pg 232; 247 in pdf) and several web sources have, in essence:

John Pendleton (son of Henry Pendleton & Mary Bishop Taylor; grand-son of Philip Pendleton & Isabella Hurt) b: c. 1719 in King & Queen county VA or Rappahannock county VA d: c. 1799 April in Hanover county VA or in Caroline county VA m1: c. 1740 to Phoebe James m2: c. 1761 to Sarah Madison b: c. 1725

and many (but not all) claim that this Sarah Madison is a 1st cousin of president James Madison.

This one says it's the president's sister:

I'm skeptical, but see other connections amongst the Madisons and Taylors and Pendletons and Claytons and Hurts and Gregorys.

......7 John Taylor sr b: 1696-11-18 in Orange county VA d: 1780-03-22 in Granville, NC m: 1715-02-14 or 1716-02-14 in Orange county VA to Catherine Pendleton (daughter of Philip Pendleton & Isabella Hurt) b: 1699-12-18 in New Kent county VA d: 1774-07-26 in Orange county VA or Caroline county VA

Curate of Badwell Ask in Suffolk? 1674 immigrated with brother Philip Pendleton.)

Some sites have this Sarah being a daughter of a Thomas Madison, and elsewhere there appears a Sarah Madison, daughter of Thomas Madison, but these records show this Sarah Madison m: 1755-11-27 to Thomas Laughlin.

Thomas Madison (son of John Madison II & Isabel Minor Todd) m: Susannah Henry parents of Sarah Madison b: c. 1719

Is she a 1st, 2nd,... 5th cousin by a string of marriages of president James Madison, or was this someone's wishful thinking over a century ago?
