Hi. I AM NOT kin to this family nor do I know any of the members. However I do have some limited information on the family.

Elizabeth Maddison and James Purves came to the United States in 1883 with three sons Robert, James and Thomas. They first visited with Maddison family in Iowa and then settled in Lower Lake, California north of San Francisco.

Elizabeth died in 1886 and James died in 1887. James and Thomas were sent to Iowa and reared by Maddison relatives. Robert stayed in California with relatives there.

After James grew up, he went back to California. He and his brother Robert went to New Mexico and Texas to buy land, but the land deal fell through. Later they moved on to the North Texas Panhandle and bought land.

James married Annie Louise Landis in 1913. In 1924 they moved to Union County New Mexico. They never had any children. Annie died in 1946. From what I understand, James then married her sister Emna Landis.

James died in 1957. I have no other information about the Maddison relatives nor about James's brothers.

If you think this might be a part of your family line and would be interested in the information I have, please contact me here or at my e-mail address. Please put Purves in the subject line if you e-mail.

Again I am not kin nor know the family, but hope I can help YOU find family.

Sue
