A colleague & I were researching Peyton Madison, husband of Mary Laws (daughter of George Laws, Sr.) and were confronted with a monumental amount of information that was confusing & misleading as there seemed to be at least 3 Peyton Madison’s with information overlapping and intermingling with the three and none of the 3 was clearly delineated. We hope our research efforts coupled with information from Family trees, & message boards and other online sources will serve as a GUIDE in helping others to differentiate these three Peyton Madison’s.

The Patriarch, John Madison who married Agatha Strother, had at least 3 children:
(1) William Strother Madison, b. VA d. VA.
(2) John Fredrick Madison, Sr., b. in VA. d. AL.; he had a son named Peyton Madison b. Nova Scotia Canada, migrated to Greene Co. AL in early 1800’s.
All researchers online referred to the Green Co. AL Peyton Madison as just that Peyton Madison.
(3) (James) Peyton Madison, Sr. b. VA. d. NC.; he had a son named (James) Peyton Madison, Jr. b. NC d. NC. Some researchers have this father & son’s first
name as “James.”
