Madsens in Norway & S. Africa

I have letter dated 1935 from Johannesburg, S.Africa to my ancestor, Mabel Undheim, in Minneapolis, Mn. She is called "cousin Mabel" and the letter details Madsen family news from 1916 on. The letter is signed by Erling T. Madsen and relates that his mother, Mathilda, age 73, has a brother named George who went Whaling in St. Georgia some time before. Erling had brothers named Mads, Arne and Ove. Erling has children Thelma and Kenneth. Ove has two children not named. Both men married English girls. His father was a ship captain and died of cancer in 1916. At that time brothers Arne and Ove were on active duty in France and E. Africa. Arne died in 1916 in E. Africa of Black Water Fever. Brother Mads was in Norway and died there in 1921 of complications from the 1917 Influenza Epidemic.
I don't know how the Madsens were related to Mabel Undheim...her mother's name was Ellem Marie Gullickson (parents unknown)and she came from an area close to Oslo...probably the Fiskum-Eiker-Drammen area. Does anyone know anything of this Madsen family? I'm anxious to identify Marie's family connections. Thanks for any information. Jean
