Dave, my mother's (paternal) grandmother's family were Madsens in Wisconsin. They came from a farm called Midgaarden, from Bamble in Telemark Norway. They came in about the year 1845 to Millwaukee. They cleared the land for a farm in Manitowoc Co. in Cato Twp (Gjerpen).
The father was Jacob Madsen (s/o Mads Michelsen and Maria Jacobdtr Oksum.) He was born 15 October 1815 and died in 1904. His wife was Ingeborg Maria Andersdatter who was b. 11 April 1813 at the place Fjellestad at Bamble Norway. Her parents were Anders Halvorsen and Ingeborg Maria Olsdatter. She died in 1850 from a cholera plague.
Their children: Anne Karine (Jacobsdtr) Madsen b. 1837 (evidently died in Norway young); Andreas (Jacobsen) Madsen b 27 Jan 1839 (evidently died in Norway before the family came to U.S.); Marie Anne (Kari) (Jacobsdtr) Madsen, b. 12 July 1840, md. an Olson; Maren Gurine (Jacobsdtr) Madsen b. 23 Jan 1842 at Langesund, Telemark (died 1846 in Milwaukee); Anders Madsen b. 26 March 1844 at Langesund, d 15 Aug 1907 Cato Twp, Manitowoc Co, WI. (Married Mary Hoverson 1871 and had a large family there in Cato Twp; Ingeborg b. 8 Jan 1846 at Langesund, Telemark, d. 11 Nov 1905 in Chicago Ill. She md Kittel Johnson 1863 in Chicago; Maren Gurine Madsen b. 1848 Milwaukee, d.1893 Giltner, Hamilton Co, NE (She married Martin C. Wilson 1866 in Chicago Ill. and had 5 children).
