Madsens from Denmark to SD

This is a long shot I know but have to try:

I am searching for Arthur Madsen b. in South Dakota about 1888 or 1889. Both parents born in Denmark. Arthur travelled around quite a bit...he settled in Campbell Co. TN for a few years and married my ancestor Ethel May Wright Hicks about 1921. He was living with Ethel and her parents in the 1920 census. According to family info Ethel bore Arthur two children: Charlotte about May of 1919 and a son Clay born 1921. Ethel died Aug 30, 1922. At that point, I was told that Arthur took Clay and Charlotte and moved out west and the family lost contact. Arthur left his step children Harrylyn Hicks and Oliva Hicks in the care of his in-laws George and Sarah Wright in Campbell Co. TN...

Now, I have found an SS listing for an Arthur Madsen born Aug 22, 1888 ...the ss was issued from CO and his residence at time of death was Idaho in May of 1965. I have also found a listing for a Clay Madsen in the ss index with a bd of Nov 1, 1921 he died Oct 1975 and the ss number was issued in SD although no residence was listed.

Can anyone help?
