I was born unto benjamin greg maestas son of benjamin gusman maestas son of benjamin gusman maestas son of benjamin maestas when I was younger my grandfather told me he had did our geneology back to spain some 400years according to him we came accross as jesuits with coronado during the beginning explorations of these continents the name then was Maes. their is an island called Maes in spain which tells a history of jewish settlement some 2000 years ago by families hiding from the persecution of the believers in the christ. while on this continent they had settled in the northern new mexico area and southern colorado area. originally building and working missions in the area the later families fell away from the work of the church starting plantations and taking indians of the region as slaves some of these took wifes of the indians and had children by them. what ever the story may be about the maestas family I have always found it to be very rich in historical value and hope some day the true story and family tree might be told.
I am married now and have three young Maestas girls I would like to meet more of my present day family as I do not know many besides my immediate relation. I am also glad to see an interest by others in the past of the Maestas family God bless you all.
