There are records of Peter Maginn in Moriah,Essex Co, NY, including an 1855 census entry in which he lists an adopted daughter Alice along with children Barney and Margaret. Peter and his wife Catherine, both born in Ireland, had lived in town 7 years, Alice, born in Ireland, had lived in town 9 years.
My great-grandmother Alice Maginn was born 1846,census records and grave stone. According to information given to my mother, her father's name was Jeffrey and he was a teacher. Alice's mother died when she was young. I haven't found any record of Jeffrey, but Alice lived with another family. I'm guessing that family was Peter and Catherine Maginn.
A Peter Maginn was the baptismal sponsor for Alice's oldest child--the "father/uncle" Peter however was deceased at the time and I only have a sketchy list of their children--there is no Peter on the list! The immigrant Peter's grave is not very far from that of Alice and her husband William Bigalow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Essex Co. NY.
Does anyone know anything about the Essex Co, NY Maginns?
