Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum

will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
My paternal great-grandfather was Patrick H. Maginn, born about 1851 in Belfast, Ireland, and died about 1935 in Placer County, California. I read on page 579 of "History of Placer and Nevada Counties" that, "in 1855, Mrs. Margaret Maginn Hawkins left the Emerald Isle to come to the United States and she was keeping a boarding house in Iowa Hill, California. Three years later, her brother Patrick decided that he, too, would leave his native land and seek the Golden West; he came with his family, in which there was a seven-year-old boy who was destined to become a prominent figure in the country of his adoption. They called him Patrick H., after his father, with an "H" added to avoid confusion. Patrick H. was the second of four children." I was also told that the mother of Patrick H. was Bridget Bradley and I think I found their family coming through Ellis Island as Pat McGheen would like to find more about their families in Ireland.
