To clan Mahaffey - greetings and felicitations!
Up until my grandmother died - I knew nothing beyond my Great Grandfather - whom my father was named for. Then we found that my father's Uncle (Emory) Claude had typed (on onion skin paper that was taped together) a family tree - that depicted three lines of the three brothers who came to America from Ireland and who fought in the Revolutionary War. My Aunt Lurlie would not allow me to take it to get a copy negative made so I went to the Post Office and made copies. The old mimeograph-like wet copy paper has since dissolved and she lost the original before she died.
I do remember my line as follows:
Alexander Mahaffey (my 4th grandfather)
Emory Varnal Watson Mahaffey (my 3rd grandfather)
James Alexander Benson Mahaffey (my great grandfather)
Charles Olin Mahaffey (my grandfather)
James Alexander Benson Mahaffey (my father)
James Alexander Benson Mahaffey, Jr. (me)
I once found a description of Alexander Mahaffey and his two brothers: Martin and Hugh on an internet search many years ago that matched the family tree I had. (Not to be confused with the 3 sons of same names from South Carolina whose father fought in the Revolutionary War. My wife just found this line today.) I also discovered that day that there was a Mahaffey in every state in the union except North Dakota. (At least that had a phone number in 1997.)
There is one last place that I may find at least part of the photocopy that I made - if and when I find it - I will share it here and on the family tree that my wife is putting together.
PS - I check this email everyday - firstname.lastname@example.org
