Mehaffy northern NY State to Utica NY
I am working on the Mehaffy ancestry of the Mehaffys of Utica, NY: they came from St. Lawrence Co., NY and lived in Lisbon and Ogdensberg of that county. I am currently researching Census and other records in NY State Library in Albany; does anyone already have any info on this family in the 1800's or earlier?
I particularly seek the ancestry of John Edgar Mehaffy of Lisbon, NY. Married Jane Logan. Father of Ernest, Raymond, Charles, Blanche and Morris.
I don't have birthdate for John Edgar but I'd guess 1870's. Had a son b. in 1905 (Morris).
The family had a farm near Ogdensburg.
I determined that that Mahaffy family of nearby Boonville, NY is a different family.
I am told that the ones in Lisbon area (Mehaffy spelling) originated from Ireland thru Canada just over the St. Lawrence river.
thanks
