I have been researching several family lines in the North Carolina, Virgina, West Va and SC and Ky states.......where Mahala comes in.............one place in Ky I ran across the name meaning or maybe it was a family forum that I can not locate now that the two main lines that it is in several times over generations........that the word is a cherokee word..............and family name..........but can not find the family name .........several of the Trussell family and Vance families that it shows up in think it is a family name back somewhere.......they are Scotch Iris mostly in ancestory............would love to know about this family have a great grandmother Mahala Vance.....and she had some great aunts named that..........find it alot in the names that come from this area of our country.
