I can't help you exactly with this book of yours, but maybe a little with some background info. I am not related to Maiers (that I know of) but it's possible my grandmother knew the people in your book.
Grohn (also formerly: Grohn bei Vegesack)is the town where my maternal grandmother (Agnes GRIMM nee SPRICK) was born in 1900 - it has since been absorbed by the growth of the city of Bremen (and is now called Bremen-grohn).It is a small town, near the riverport of Vegesack, which is at the confluence of the Weser with the Lesum. My grandmother used to speak of the Aue as another river in the area.
The main church in town was St Michael's Evangelisch/Lutheran. The LDS Family History Centers have the records from this church on microfilm.
The main business in town was the "Norddeutsche Steingut Fabrik" - they make clay tiles (Wandplatten)
I know she (my grandmother)used to speak of a Tidemann Family that was very affluent in the area, and that she used to be friends with the family from the Apotheke (but I can't remember their name).
FWIW her grandparents surnames (so my GG-grandparents): SPRICK, WINTERS, SCHMIDT, COORDES - all in Grohn about 1890-1910 or so.
Hope this helps
Bruce
