Hi Dan,
I just came across our correspondence in 2008 and realized that I never replied.I am sorry, my filing system left a lot to be desired and now I am getting much better.
Anyway, I was born in 1947 and my brother Joe was born in 1945.So we were infants at the time you were playing the streets @ 8 yrs old.You may have come across my family but at 8 yrs old, I know what you mean, who cared about what the older people were doing. When we were around 8 or 9, westayed with my Aunt Rose on Maple St for a summer when my Mom was sick.We hadagreat time with the kids in Mahanoy City. What fun.
You mentioned a Dombrowski family that lived across from St Casmir's.That was Anna & Joe. Anna was invited to my wedding in 1974 and I have been trying to figure out how she is related to me, but I cannot find any leads. Her husband might be the son of Stanislaw's brother Jan, but I am not sure.Trying to put the puzzle pieces together.
When I look up Dombrowski's in phone books on the web in Mahanoy City now, there is no Dombrowski living at that address any more.Do you know of anyone back there that I could write to?
Also, I am trying to figure out what mine my grandfather worked in.I am assuming it was the Mahanoy City Collery for lack of any information.Do you know any wayto find out who worked at which mines?Did they keep any records?
My Dad, Stanislaw's son, moved to New Jersey in the early 1940's.We were raised in the NEw Brunswick area and now I live in "sunny" or "not so sunny" North Carolina. My brother still lives in New Jersey.
Thanks for any info or leads, Dan,
Carol
