I happened upon your posting when doing a
little research on my husband's family name
of Malley. You indicated that your name of
Malley may have been Mallett or some version
of that spelling. I thought you might be
interested to know that the bay on Lake Champlain in the town
of Colchester where I live in Vermont is
named "Malletts Bay" supposedly after some boat captain from very long ago. There is a web site that has a discussion list that you
might be able to find out more information
about the name. There are some great amateur historians in the town. The site is
