Hi there, I was a Malia, before marraige, and still have a burning desire to find out where my maiden name comes from! My grandfather always maintained that we were of Irish decent. However, tracing back more than a couple of generations is proving difficult to say the least! The information on the Malia name is mixed. Some say that it's derived from O'Malley, others from O'Malia? But there seems to be plenty of origins that all names of these families lived in or around Clew Bay, Co.Mayo Ireland. (check out the o'malley unnoficial website)
My Family is from the North East of England, at Newcastle and Sunderland. I know that there was an O'Malia that went to Newcastle in the late 1900's but I'm not sure if its a link! Anyone else with any info on this name, I'd love hearing from you.
Good look in your search Gary and Sue.
