I am looking for information on dennis melley/maley and family. dennis was born in donegal ireland in 1836. he left ireland around 1856 and settled in the tamaqua ,new kirk area of pennsylvania in the united states.A coal mining area. dennis married anna campbell in feb. 23, 1857 at ST. JEROMES in tamaqua. anna campbell was born in 1838 in the glenties,her parents were patrick campbell and alice odonnell campbell both born in the glenties in donegal ireland.THE sponsors for the marriage of dennis melley and anna campbell were james melley and elizabeth ryan.dennis and anna campbell had many children grace born in 1857, later became a school teacher. patrick born in 1859, alice born in 1861 later became a nun in the order of the sisters of notre dame and her name was sister stanislaus. mary ellen melley born 1863 later married a james longstreet .william james melley born in 1865, roseanna melley born in 1867 later became a nurse. james thomas born in 1869, dennis melley born in 1870 became a catholic priest and served in the philadelphia area for many years. he baptized the late cardinal john oconnor .emmaline born in 1871,daniel joseph melley born in 1874, joseph born in 1875, elizabeth mellet born in 1879, maria immacula born in 1881, and charlotte born in 1890. DENNIS WAS A MINER, HE WAS A CIVIL WAR VETERAN wounded at the second battle of bull run and later in the war was captured and taken to andersonville prision. HE was in the 50th pennsylvania infantry reg. company c. DENNIS died christmas day 1895 and was buried at ST. JEROMES OLD CEMETERY. anna CAMPBELL DIED ON SEPT. 20, 1931, AND WAS BURIED IN THE FAMILY PLOT AT HOLY CROSS CEMETERY IN YEADON DELAWARE COUNTY PA. OUTSIDE OF PHILADELPHIA. with manyof her children. DOES ANY ONE HAVE INFORMATION ON THIS BRANCH OF THE MELLEY/ MALEY. ON DENNIS CITIZEN PAPERS AND LEGAL PAPERS THE NAME DENNIS MALEY WAS USED. THERE WAS ALSO A JAMES MELLEY AND A GRACE MELLEY THAT WERE SPONSORS ON THE CHILDRENS BAPTISMS AND A DANIEL AND MARIA MELLEY,i dont know if daniel and james melley were brothers of dennis. jerrymalley@aol.com
