The Mallon name
My Dad is from Dublin, however it is widely assumed that the Mallon name is actually fron Northern Ireland - talk of Tyrone and being 'burnt out of the North'. Whist all of my immediate Mallon descendants are from the South ( my Grandad was from a farm in Longford.)
My father has always insisted that Mallon is not a derivative of Malone or Maloney. And also that there were 4 Mallon brothers ( this is as far back as he could trace, probably 1600's) and that the oldest of them was called Owen - hence my brothers name.
There is also talk that my Great Grandad John Joseph Mallon went to New York and helped to build the Empire State building, made some money, and then came back again.
I would love to hear of anyone else who thinks they could be related. The Longford connection might mean something to someone - apart from that its hard because everyone is John!!! I have 4 cousins named John Mallon already!!
