Hoping to touch base with Michael Mahan who posted a 2004 query about his great grandfather Lee A. Maloy. I answered his query, but he hasn't posted since 2004. I'm reposting here with a new subject line.
Lee A. Maloy is my 1st cousin, twice removed according to FTMaker calculator--He may be related to me on both his father's line and his mother's line. His mother Lizzie was a half-sister to my great grandmother Clara COOPER and his father, Daniel, was nephew to Lizzie's step-father Dillard L. COOPER. Have not yet figured out the COOPER relationship, but 1880 census identifies Daniel MALOY and John MALOY as nephews of Dillard L. COOPER, my great great grandfather.
I'll begin with my Dillard COOPER family in Brinkley, Monroe Co,. AR 1880 census. Daniel and John Molloy / Maloy, nephews, were in that household. Dillard Cooper and his wife Parthenia are my great great grandparents. I haven't yet figured out how the two MALOY boys (brothers ?) are related to Dillard COOPER. I 'think' their father might be Hugh MALOY frm ALABAMA and the mother is Elizabeth (Unknown) from South Carolina. Dillard COOPER was born South Carolina (Spartanberg, Thickety) son of Benson G. COOPER and Delphia LINDSEY who came to St. Francis County AR before the 1850 census--about 1846 I think.
Also in that Dillard L. COOPER household is Lizzie. She married Daniel Maloy and Lee A. is their son. Lizzie (Elizabeth) was born about 1888 to Edward HOLLEMAN / HOLMAN in Monroe Co, AR. Ed HOLMAN was the 2nd husband of my gg grandmother Parthenia ANDREWS (ANDERS), HOUSE, HOLMAN, COOPER. Lizzie was using the COOPER surname --and while I do not have verifying documents to prove it--I think she was HOLMAN's daughter. Parathenia's 1st husband George HOUSE (married 1851 Wilkes, Georgia) disappears after the 1860 census in AR. (The ANDREWS / ANDERS family migrated 1855-56 from GA to Monroe / St. Francis County, AR area).
I am getting off subject slightly, but it is possible that my gg grandmother Parthenia had more than 3 husbands (family lore says 5, but I have found only 3 and have some old family bible data to back up those 3).... however, this is a marriage record I find that might be Lizzie shown as a REYNOLDS.... Either Parthenia Andrews House married a REYNOLDS after George HOUSE died and before marrying Ed HOLMAN ....or Lizzie married a REYNOLDS before marrying Daniel MALOY.
Monroe County Marriage Records
p 2 D. J. MALOY, 20, to Miss Elizabeth P. REYNOLDS, 16,
both of Brinkley, by S. J. Lentz, JP 18 Aug 1880
I have a photo of Lizzie MALOY, identified as half-sister to Clara COOPER McLAIN. I'll have to go back to the 'boxes' of old photos, but I have photo also of Dan and I think also John MALOY / MOLLOY, etc.
You will find Lee A. (Lee Andrew) in his parents Daniel and Lizzie's household in 1900 as follows:
1900 Census ARkansas, Monroe County, Brinkley
Monroe County, Brinkley township, husband Dan and Lizzie, 4 sons --Lee, Henry, John and Allen.
1910 Census, Monroe County, Keevil township, AR
Dan has died and Lizzie is a widow living with son Lee A. and wife Annie R.
1920 Arkansas, Lonoke, Magness twp, Dist. 173, Lee with wife Dollie, 3 children & mother Elizebeth wd. age 55
Children are Katie and Andrew.
1930 (this one has been hard and I'm not sure, but I think I've found them in Mississippi. This is the Depression so times were hard and maybe that is why they left Arkansas---if it is them, as for Lee is in error ...also the name Dollie looks like Holley and indexed that way, but it is written Dolley ... and I think it is them, but where are the children. Katie could be married, but where is Andrew, born about 1920 AR---and they have a 2yr. old daughter Opal L. born in TN. I'm guessing maybe they lived between 1920 and 1930 in Memphis before going to MS---but that's a wild guess.
1930 Census....Mississippi > Holmes > Beat 3 > District 16
Looking forward to hearing from you Michael or anybody researching this line!
