Earned The Medal of Honor During the Civil War For heroism April 06, 1865 at Deatonsville (Sailor's Creek), VA

Died: January 05, 1899 at the age of 64
Sixty Medals of Honor were awarded for actions at Deatonsville (Sailor's Creek), Virginia, during the period March 29 to April 6, 1865. Fifty-seven awards were presented for actions on April 6 alone, forty-seven of them for the capture of flags of the Confederate Army. On that day Second Lieutenant Elliott Norton rushed ahead of his column in a fearless attack, and captured the flag of the 44th Tennessee Infantry.
