Dear MS Clauss: Thank you so much for responding to my posting. Barbara, sister of John and Daniel Malloy, married John McPhail,Sr. in Argyll prior to 1776. They waited until the American Revolution ended in 1783 and emigrated to NC, along with their spouses and children(all three couples). Barbara was my great, great, great grandmother.
Since my posting, I have learned that Daniel Malloy died in about 1814. He was John McPhail's dearest friend and next-door neighbor for thirty years in NC. In about 1809, three of John and Barbara McPhail's sons and their families, along with John Malloy and his family, migrated to the Mississippi Territory to what is now Madison Co., AL near Huntsville. Our family story is that John and Barbara and their other son, Archibald, and his family then joined the others in what is now AL. John made his will in 1817 and died in 1820; Barbara died in 1821. Archibald and his family(my line)then migrated on to Yalobousha Co., MS in 1822 to what is now Calhoun Co.,MS. I was raised on the original family property in MS. John II migrated on to Benton Co., AR. Hugh and Daniel McPhail both were Methodist-Episcopal ministers. Daniel served his entire career in South Carolina, while Hugh served in AL,TN,MS and eventually died at his son's home in Brenham, TX in 1852. There are still Malloys in North Alabama who are descendents, I am told. The original property of John and Barbara McPhail was bought by the Malloys who remained in Lumber Bridge,NC, and it is now SCOTSWOOD where now the seventh generations of Malloys still live.
I want to thank you so much for the information you sent, because I could never find out Barbara's parents or homeplace in Scotland during all of my research. I now live in Bedford, TX and have just retired. I plan to visit the homeplaces of the McPhails and Malloys in a trip back to North Alabama and North Carolina within the next year.
Sincerely, Jasper
