There is a web site which not everyone may know about that has PA land records on line. It is the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission website: www.phmc.state.pa.us/

At that web site I found land warrants (& some surveys) involving Richard Malone and some of his sons in Mifflin County records (later Centre County). I then wrote for and received copies of these warrants which gave some additional information not found on-line.

As background: The 1st step in getting a land patent was to obtain a land warrant, the 2nd step was to get a land survey and the final step was to obtain a patent. Once the warrant was issued, PA automatically requested their deputy surveyor in the area to obtain a survey and then it was up to the individual to complete the final step of getting a patent. Many of the settlers failed to complete the 3rd step and relied on the original warrant in their possession as proof that they owned the land.

The information from these warrants for land follows:

Richard Malone, Jr.
3/13/1794 - Richard "Mallone" Junior (No M-66 on warrant register for Mifflin County, PA) received a warrant for "400 acres adjoining land this day granted to Polly Williams" in Mifflin County for 50 shillings per hundred acres in gold, silver, or paper-money of the state. On March 13, 1794 - a survey was made (see on-line copy) It shows Polly Williams on the south and Rachiel Williams on the east. (Note: Were Polly & Rachel Williams somehow related to his wife?)

8/27/1794 - Richard "Mallone" Junior (No M-83 on warrant register for Mifflin County, PA)received a warrant for "400 acres of land adjoining lands this day granted to William Wilson on the SouthWest" for payment of 50 shillings per 100 acres. . . There is no record of the subsequent survey being completed.

8/27/1794 - Mary "Mallone" (No M-87 on warrant register for Mifflin County, PA) received a warrant for "400 acres of land adjoining land this day granted to Richard Mallone, Jr on the SouthWest" There is no record of a subsequent survey. Is she Richard Malone Jr's wife?

Leslie Malone
3/12/1794 - "Lasly Mallone" (No M-161 on warrant register for Mifflin County, PA) received a warrant for "400 acres of land adjoing land this day granted to Richard Mallone, Jr" for 50 shilings. . . There is no record of a subsequent survey.

8/27/1794 - "Lasley Mallone" (No M-286 on warrant register for Mifflin County, PA) received a warrant for "400 acres of land adjoining land this day granted to Mary Mallone on the SouthWest". No subsequent survey was found.

8/27/1794 - Elizabeth "Mallone" (No M-288 on warrant register for Mifflin County, PA) received a warrant for "400 acres of land adjoing land this day granted to Lasley Mallone on the SouthWest". No subsequent survey was found. Is she Leslie Malone's wife?

Samuel Malone
8/27/1794 - Samuel "Mallone" (No M-280 on warrant register for Mifflin County, PA) received a warrant for "400 acres of land adjoining lands this day granted to Joseph Alexander on the SouthWest". No subsequent survey was found.

8/27/1794 - Catharine "Mallone" (No M-279 on warrant register for Mifflin County, PA) received a warrant for "400 acres of land adjoining lands this day granted to Elizabeth Mallone on the SouthWest". Is she Samuel Malone's wife?

It is interesting to note that Richard and Rebecca Malone's eldest and youngest sons, Francis Malone and Hartley Malone did not purchase land in 1794.

Another posting will be made for the Lands warranted to Richard Malone Sr.shortly.
