Manchego Family Genealogy Forum
For Manchego's curious enough to link up using DNA, FamilyTreeDNA.com has Manchego DNA in it's New Mexico DNA Project. If Colorado Manchegos descended from Jose Florencio submit DNA, it could be determined if they descend from the Manchego line documented back to Belen, NM around 1721. As you can see from the quoted information below, the DNA must come from a man with the Manchego surname to trace who his father's father's father.... was and see if the dna matches that of other Manchego men.
"This project is open to those who's Y-DNA (father's father's father's...) or Mt-DNA (mother's mother's mother's...) line extends to New Mexico. It is understood that it was the custom in Colonial Spanish America to pass along a surname that may have come from the maternal side. With this in mind, with DNA it is possible to see relationships between people of different Surnames which would extend back to rather small gene pool some 400 years ago just after the first Conquest of New Mexico by Juan de Onate in 1598. These ancestors having the most descendants in New Mexico."
