My MANG immigrant family is from Hesse Darmstadt to New York City and on over to Buffalo, New York. William MANG (b:1817 Hesse Darmstadt ;d: May 24,1894 Buffalo,NY) and wife, Justina KOCH(b: July 27, 1821, Wurtenburg; d:Dec. 22, 1887, Buffalo,NY) came to the US before 1852. William MANG recieved his naturalization papers in Buffalo New York, Feb. 21, 1852. He was a bootmaker.
They had the following children:
1. August MANG
2. Clara MANG
3. Adam MANG (b:1842)
4. William MANG (b: 1843)
5. Sophinus MANG (b:1847)
6. Mary MANG (b:1849)
7. Elizabeth MANG (b:Dec. 23, 1851)
8. John W. MANG (b:1853)
9. Catherine MANG (b:1860)
10. Albert MANG (b:1863)
11. Phineas MANG (b:1895) unconfirmed
If you are researching MANGs of Buffalo, I would love to hear from you. I have copies of William MANGs probate records and hope to be able to find ship records and records from his place of origin in Hesse Darmstadt to take the line back one more generation and to fill in the silbings of William our ancestor immigrant. I know it has been shared over the years that this family came from Alsace Lorraine- but we have not pinpointed the exact local yet.
