Our Meng family lived in St.Jean-Saverne, Bas Rhin, France from around 1660 on. I went to St. Jean last summer and obtained numerous records from the Town Hall in St. Jean and from the Archive Departementale du Bas Rhin in Strasbourg. As for the name, Mang, I heard that some of the Mengs changed their name to Mang after coming to this country (Seneca Co.OH)around 1838, then moved away from Ohio. Evidence of this is found in an article in the Tiffin, OH Tribune; l Jul 1926; p.3, cl) excerpted by LG of Sandusky. Among the Mengs attending the 25th anniversary celebration for my great uncle and aunt, Joseph (b. 12March 1864)and Elizabeth Ruffing Meng are: Harold Mang, Alfred Mang and Madeline Mang. While searching records from St. Jean, I never found the name Mang.
