Manhard Family

The following letter is being mailed the week of September 1st, 2002 to all people I was able to find through conventional name/address lookups with the last name Manhard in the U.S. and Canada. Chances are someone you know will get this package, but if you read this and have any information, please contact me. Thanks for your help.

"I am writing this letter to everyone I can locate in the United States and Canada with the name Manhard with the hope that I can find some information about my ancestors. I am in the process of tracing my familyís history and have found that my great-great-grandfather Peter was born in 1800 near Brockville, Ontario, Canada (Elizabeth Township, Greenbush District). From his birth date back into the 1700ís I find conflicting information and I hope that one of you may possess information prior to 1800.

I have enclosed Genealogical Worksheets as well as other information (Exhibits A-E) given to me by Mary Manhard, who lives near Brockville in Maitland. These indicate that a Pieter Meinhardt came to the U.S. in 1742 or 1760 and had five sons, one of whom was my great-great-grandfather Peter. However, I question this fact since Pieter would have been very old at the birth of a son in 1800. I believe either there is a missing generation on Exhibit A or that he was from a different branch of the Manhard family of Brockville. The other worksheets are the history of the other four brothers (no information is available for Trulove, the second son), although the birth dates do not seem reasonable for some, and other information I received is inconsistent with who came to the U.S. and when. I am specifically looking for any information you might have concerning the Manhards prior to 1800 or corrections to the enclosed worksheets.

It is my understanding from my research that all Manhards originally came from the Brockville area. There is still a Manhard church and cemetery north of Brockville, and the local map shows a town of Manhard. Therefore, it is my belief that we are all related, just exactly how I cannot yet determine.

If you would be so kind as to send me any information concerning our ancestors or would like a copy of our family tree when completed, please write me at 211 Rivershire Lane, Lincolnshire, Illinois 60069, or call me at 847-634-1300 during office hours. Also, should you know of any other relatives or persons who might have information on our history, I would appreciate your passing this letter on to them. I thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter."
