Researching Manners in NJ

I am researching the Manners line in New Jersey decsending from John Manners b.1679 Yorkshire.
My g-g-grandmother was Eunice Manners (daughter of John Schenck Manners and Penelope Stout). She was married to James S. Manners abt. 1844 in Hopewell, NJ. This is where I am stuck. I suspect James S. Manners is the child of Dr. John Manners and Eliza Cooper (per family tradition), but can not find a positive link. There is one published commentary saying the doctor died without issue, but those reports are sometimes incorrect. Anyone have any insight?
