Manners in Scotland

I have found a David Manners, born 1799 in Colinton,Midlothian Scotland, on the 1841 census. His wife Jane Douglas, born 1800 in Largo, Fife, Scotland. They had a son Robert born Largo in 1832. Also a child with them called Joseph Gordon, born 1841.
It is this Joseph I am interested in . Was he eventually adopted? Or was he christened a Manners? It is this Joseph Manners I have been searching for for over 40 years, if it is the right one ? Can anyone help????
