Hi David

FACT : WWM was born at 11.00 pm on 18 Aug 1824 Nantes, France. His parents were George Manners & Charlotte Clarke, who married 16 Oct 1923 Carisbrooke IoW. George was a Lieut 25th Foot on half pay at that time, and still held that position when he died at La Flèche on 1 Jan 1840, aged 48.

THEORY (but I would think almost certainly the case) : George was the 8th chd of Wm Manners & Frances Whichcote, & bp Grantham on 30 Oct 1792. He was the grandson of the Revd Thomas Manners & his wife Susannah Buckland, and great-grandson of Lord Wm Manners & Corbetta Smythe.

Let me know if the above fits in with your own theory - I have further info should you require it.

Shirley
